Program

Day 1
  • FROM MELAY TO SAINT MAURICE LES CHATEAUNEUF :

You will begin your hike by the towpath of the canal from Roanne to Digoin, enjoy the softness of this one. Indeed, quickly, you will arrive on the paths leading you to the crests of the country of the 7 hills with magnificent sights on the bocage. Then you will cross the valley of the Bézo, a small river which winds between the hills, to arrive at the confines of the Brionnais, in Saint Maurice les Châteauneuf, village of the antique dealers!

Day 2
  • FROM SAINT MAURICE LES CHATEAUNEUF TO LA CLAYETTE :

For the most courageous, you will pass by the mountain of Dun which culminates at 708 meters. You will be able to go to the small Romanesque chapel located at the top of the site from where you have a breathtaking view. For those who wish a calmer day, a circuit passing at the feet of the mountain of Dun will be proposed to you. You will not be in height, but you will have all the same beautiful points of view very pleasant on the bocage and you will be able to appreciate the simplicity of small chapels and Romanesque churches so numerous on this part of the brionnais.

Day 3
  • FROM LA CLAYETTE TO SAINT JULIEN DE CIVRY :

Today, we propose you to combine hiking and visits: you will pass in front of the magnificent castle of La Clayette at the very beginning of your hike. It is possible to schedule a guided tour of the castle's exterior from June 1st to October 31st every Tuesday and Thursday at 10 am. Then your hike will lead you to the castle of Drée, the little Versailles of the Brionnais: here a long visit is to be expected because if the interiors are worth the detour (guided tour possible), the gardens are also remarkable and deserve to be enjoyed.

Day 4
  • FROM SAINT JULIEN DE CIVRY TO ANZY LE DUC :

Here you are on your way on the paths of the small Swiss Brionnaise! Here it goes up, it goes down, it goes up, it goes down and finally, you will find the Arconce valley, this magnificent small river which winds in the middle of the meadows. A little bit of sweetness to end this hike in beauty. Today, it is 100% nature!

Day 5
  • FROM ANZY LE DUC TO SAINT JULIEN DE JONZY :

A day that starts with the visit of the magnificent Romanesque church of Anzy le Duc, a real treasure of Romanesque art (guided visit recommended as an option). Once the visit is over, the paths of the Charmays forest will lead you to the village of Semur en Brionnais where we suggest you visit the collegiate church of Saint Hilaire. It was built in the 12th century. It is classified as a historical monument. It was the last Romanesque church built in Brionnais. It is a mixture of Romanesque Cluniac style and prefiguration of the Gothic style. Then after this passage in Semur en Brionnais, you will finish by a very beautiful walk in forest.

Day 6
  • FROM SAINT JULIEN DE JONZY TO IGUERANDE :

One takes again the way of the forest of the wood of the priests. The softness and the peace of this beautiful forest of hardwoods will bring you back in the valley of the Loire, without forgetting a small detour by the splendid Romanic church of Iguerande, thousand-year-old watchtower of the top of its hill with a splendid sight on the valley and its river. The church of Saint Marcel d'Iguerande (optional guided tour) is one of the purest and most complete Romanesque churches in this part of Burgundy. The building, dating from the end of the 11th century, is a solid, imposing and squat structure and has benefited from an important restoration. It is the only vestige of a Benedictine priory dependent on Marcigny and previously on Cluny, whose buildings no longer exist since the Revolution. And if you are lucky, Lili will be present at the museum in front of it to tell you the history of the people of this country!
